Cooling off in the summer heat

Share |

As you know if you visit my blog often, we watch alot of westerns, John Wayne, in particular in this family. and a familiar scene is one of the hot days and warm nights and of course someone getting thrown in the horse water trough. Well this past weekend, we spent alot of time walking a horse that is colicing and not doing well. We were up at 11:30 pm in the dark walking him or sitting and listening to him sleep in silence. My hubby and I sat in the moonlight and listened to the desert as it cooled hand in hand. just praying that our friends horse will get over this hump and make it. During the day, we spent it in the sun so a little warmer. So we have a barely used trough. We filled it with water and my son was the happiest ever seen. It is deep enough to even get out the snorkle. I am not sure my hubby was to thrilled I was gonna add a picture of him in the trough, but a cowboy cooling off in the heat. woohoo. Life is good!

And here is the kiddo just floating later by himself. this patio is the one on our hobby barn. It is a nice place for us to cool off and hang out.

My hubby grinned at me afterwards. He agreed my idea of the water trough was good. I told him one day when our kiddo has grandkids he will tell them about how his parents let him float in a water trough to escape the heat. This made my hubby smile. Even tho' the weekend was stressed with worry. We smiled alot. It is good to have a best friend to hang out with during troubled times and also during good. It's how you handle the stress that builds that solid bridge. I always feel like I can turn to my hubby to laugh, to giggle or just to pause and feel the comfort. Which is a good thing because a few hours later I tripped and sliced the bottom of my toe off. (I am talented I know. ) After realizing I was standing in blood, I hobbled to the house and sent the kiddo to get Dad. Hubby came in the house as I lay on the floor with my foot up in the air to try to slow the bleeding. He just smiled at me that angled little grin. I am not quite sure it said... " what has my wife gotten herself into now?"  or "is this her way of not having to walk the horse in the heat anymore?" haha. Never ever have I had a cuter medic in boots and a hat. And a rescue guy that ran for Dad at the speed of light. so it's all wrapped up and sitting elevated as I type this because it starts to pound when I smack it on stuff.. which if course I just did.. so maybe his angled little grin was... "how clumsy is my wife?" haha. maybeI'll have to ponder that.

But for now.. I'll just .. Love my life.

Enjoy!

They have no words to give you....

My friend from down the road called this morning. Her horse got struck by lightning Monday night and passed away 5 minutes after the vet got there Tuesday a.m.. God bless those animals that touch our spirit and bring so much to our lives. They can never tell you how they feel with words. You just have to listen with your heart and care with your soul. I just had to post about it because you could hear her voice was just so torn she couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t think. I guess folks wonder why I love our horses in our lives. I couldn’t explain it to many. They just are these magnificent beings. They have no words to give you. They can only show you trust, respect and interest. They can only respond to who you are and what you give them. If you are calm, they are calm. If you are having a rough day and need to just breathe, they are excellent at peace and quiet. I lost a horse when I was pregnant. It was hard. It was an accident, but in the months before it happened I went out during the day and just stood in her pen. Just stood next to her and rested my head on her side to break up my days a little. When she did pass, we came out in the morning to find her gone. I was filled with hormones and craziness and couldn’t think straight. My friend down the road called me at that time and gave me some calming and helpful words. I didn’t know her well then, but through time we have kept in touch and chat and tend to see each other a lot more lately. I feel for her. Her loss is quick and devastating. She equated her horse to “her purpose”. I get this. She rode him every night, every weekend and raced barrels on him. She made mention of taking everything she has learned from him with her to a new horse sometime in the future. I just hope she finds some peace in her memories and in the depths of her soul. I’ll keep her heart in my prayers for it will be tender and need Gods care.

From one horse owner to another,

God Bless,

Chris

New School year. New Organization.

This year I hope to be more organized about school. With the longer days and the extra items my kiddo wants to do I got to thinking when I was folding laundry a few weeks ago. If I could just put his clothes in a place for the week on Sunday when I do clothes. I would know that his "school pride" shirt is ready to go. I would know that his Boy Scouts outfit is ready that he wants to wear etc. And my son is a clothes hound. He goes through tons of clothes in a day.

So I had this shelf I bought at a yard sale for cheap. I bought it because it matched our style, but wasn't clear on what it's use would be and well dirt cheap. So I printed the days of the week and put some Star Wars/Clone Wars lego pictures on the labels to make them "more cool" (which worked!) and put this shelf in my kiddos room.

Then last week the kiddo and I sat down and put his items on his shelf. We talked about Friday's and his school shirt. Which outfits match eachother. What shirt he wanted to wear the first day. All of these little details. My kiddo really got into it. He pulled the outfits out of the drawer and put them on the shelf and in doing so. He told me what shorts he liked and didn't like and why. This gave me a little insight into why some of the things I buy end up in the bottom of the drawer until I give them to my relatives for their boys only to realize they have only been worn once or twice. Like Buttons. He would prefer snap shorts. Buttons take to long to do when you want to get to recess. This to me is a fair request. And when you are in school all day Recess is an important part of the day. So that works. And the shirts with the stripes well he doesnt like to wear those to much because one other kid in his class was picking on him about it. I can get that. I have been that insecure kid. So it was a good visit in the kiddos room. Of course I didn't turn around and look at everything behind me. I just focused on the drawers and my shelving unit and it's purpose and talking it with the kiddo. The rest of the tornado in his room I will deal with on another day. For today, we will just do a "GO MOM" cheer for a beginning to new organization.

Have a great day!
Enjoy!
Chris

1st day of school

Well it’s the first day.. Means new organizations, schedules and changes today. Moving myself back out to the studio to work out of. Yeah! But come lunch time when I am eating lunch by myself I am gonna miss him greatly. My hubby knows this so he keeps checking on me. Although being in the studio working helps boost my work creativity. Wooho!! So cheers to the first day. Here is a picture of my hubby and the kiddo. Dad had to leave early for work. And as usual Freckles got in on the 1st day pictures.

Drove to school and kiddo says… “Mom, I can walk from the gate”. I said “okay but can I walk you to the playground so it’s the first day?” Sure he says. We get to the playground throw the backpack inline and he says half in a turn run “Okay Mom see you at the gate after school” I smile. And say “have a great day” … He cocks his head to the side and looks at me and says “Mom do you want a hug?” I said “yes” He gave me a hug. Ran the other way. And yelled “bye mom” So good to be understood by my very independent 1st grader.

On to another great day!

Enjoy!

Chris

ahh the mornings..

We live in the desert so the best time to do things outdoors is in the morning and as early as you can stand it. My hubby was out cleaning horse waters and I had been out doing some random things.I had my camera with me to take a picture of the tile table I showed the other day. I was working my way back to the house. Must have been about 6 a.m. I walked right past this cutey and started up the stairs. He says quietely. Good Morning Mom.

I paused and came back down the steps. I said can you smile. He said "it is just to bright Mom" haha. but apparently not to bright  to miss getting dressed with your six shooter gunbelt and rifle. He just made me smile so had to share the picture with you. I hope you Enjoy as much as I did. Enjoy! Chris

Invitations for my Sister..

Yep second post today. going through my pics.

So my Sister is having a baby. Did anyone know? Well it is coming up shortly. And I was asked to do the invitations for it. These match her bedsheet choice. Can you tell we are having a boy? woohoo. I thought they came out pretty cute. (I fuzzed out the address details, if you are wondering what the heck the empty spots are. haha).  I did little rockets on the labels and even printed out some flat notecards for her to match. And I printed out a second set of the address labels. So if she decides to write thank you notes to those who attended. (Which she better not send to me!!! Take those few moments to get a breather on your sister!) Anyways. I printed out a second set of the labels to give to her so she wouldn't have to address them. Or if she decides to use the labels for announcements or something she can. This will be part of her baby shower/bbq/party gift. So if she is reading this. (ERASE from memory. If you don't act surprised I will just be devastated. ha! Yeah right. She and I have been snitching on eachothers holiday gifts for years. IT KILLS me to know what something is and to have to wait for it. If it's in a pretty box it can wait. If I know what is in the box. Oh I just come up with a 100 plus 1 reasons why I should have it now and not have to wait. haha. ). My son is a little worried because Aunt Nannees has one baby already and will soon have two and won't have room for him. Told him this wasn't possible. and he smiled and said. We'll see. I told him it was a boy. and he said WOOHOO! and gave me the thumbs up.  I think this means she is forgiven for having a second child. haha

And that stamp on the back says Handmade with care in the shape of a heart and Chris across the middle. I used the wrong ink the first time. So they had to sit out on the counter well at least the notecards did and then the invites I got it right. So I could stuff them in the envelopes with the direction card and mail them.

Made me feel really good to be able to do them for her.Thank you to Nancy her friend for letting me jump in and just handle it. ::Hugs::

Well I better go. As I type this the lightning is getting closer and the thundering is getting worse. So the kiddo would "like some supervision" he tells me. ha! what a kid.

Enjy!

Ah Creativity Abounds...

We have this tree in our backyard that we had to cut one of it's trunks off. So when we did. I had my hubby leave part of it there. And told him. I'd like to have it hold a table one day. (Please no complaints from arborists here) So now we are a year or so later and this showed up in the backyard. My hubby started with a base and some mosaic tiles and he knows I love suns. So he had some tiles and we grabbed some glass "stones" from the floral dep't at Michael's. My hubby was working on the arrangement of the tiles and wasn't happy with the rays on the sun. He had them all in single pieces around the  "sun" main portion. So he walked away to get some other tool and my kiddo walked over and arranged the "rays" like this. He smiled at my husband and said. see there. And my husband agreed with him. It was what it needed.

And here is a sideview of the trunk holding the table.

And then this is the finished piece. The metal bucket for a candle is my contribution. And the bright blue adirondack chair is awesome. This table sits next to my sons sandbox which kids always seem to be in when they show up at our house. So it will give a nice place for the parents to sit. the next plan is some ground cover and other items. We recently put "sun sails" over the sandbox that are bright colors as well. We just haven't figured out the pattern we want them to hang in. so when we get that fine tuned I'll add a picture. Well here's the completed table. Just nice to sit and be close to my kiddo while he plays, but still able to chat and have a conversation. And yep that pile a dirt in the background is another project under way. Always something around here.

My son is very proud of his contribution to the way the "rays" are set.

And I must say this is totally out of my hubies norm. He usually is a straight and organized path guy. He is getting so good at nurturing the "eclectic" for his wife. When I asked him to grab two chairs to sit at the table. I said oh and .. let the kiddo pick out the colors. He just smiled.  It is wonderful. he is the best. well I am off. Have a wonderful day! Enjoy! Chris

LORI ROCKS... can't say it any other way.

Woooohooo!! Look what came in the mail for me today!!! A belated Birthday Present. But I would wait years to get a birthday present from my friend Lori. They are always just awesome... The distance is far between us, but I have blessed every day since I met her. She is awesome! And this fits me to such a tee. I know those who know me know I love MY Cowboys for sure!!

This is the back!!!! So many fabric patterns show cowboys that stand their in their clean jeans and barely used hats. Give me a dirty workin handsome hubby in a hat and boots and jeans. And Yowser!! So this fabric she picked is awesome.. and the flag pattern in the background PHENOMENAL!

So when you have friends across the miles you cannot truly express how much you appreciate their gifts over the phone. So I am doing it in a picture. And yes I have no makeup on. Well barely any after the long day, but I knew I had to catch this grin as soon as I could. SOOOO WHOOOHOOO! Ms. Lori. Thank you Thank you. I love ya!

I am surrounded by some really talented people. I tell ya!
Enjoy!
Chris

The Creative Side of the Men in my life...

Share |
My husband is so wonderful. He has had this interest in leather tooling since I have known him.  So his interest has been flourishing so for Father's Day we went to the leather shop and he got to pick out some tools that he wanted. He was very excited when he got home. My husband can draw wonderfully. In fact, there is a mural on my sons wall of the mountains that my husband draw in brown pencil. Well if my son ever decides to paint his room I will have to figure out how to cut it out of the wall and frame it. I just love it. Anyways. This has been laying on the counter for a few days. Today I decided to snap a few pics. My husband of course pointed out 10 things plus 1 that were wrong with this from his viewpoint, but can I tell you he drew it instead of using a template then worked it into the leather. And this is just his second attempt. I, myself, was in awe. I love that he is the guy who fixes computers, rides horse,  is welding out on a corral as I type this and can draw a set of flowers and tool them into leather. He just makes my heart beam.

Below are two side views of the work, but the more I look at them they look like carmel. Wow I have a sweet tooth today. haha.

So then my son saw me taking pictures of Dad's work and stuck this up in my camera view. Look at this he said. See I did this tile. It has us three, our dogs, the house. Take the picture. So here is my son's creative forces at work. I bought some things over the summer for him to do and one of them was this tile.

He is wonderful and turning into the little creative guy. He has figured out how to run my Cricut, use windows movie maker on his little netbook and record his own little lego movies and even add fade to them. Wow. He's 6. I have a feeling my little Michael's kid projects will lose interest as time progresses, but for me this tile is priceless.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
Enjoy!
Chris

July Sketch Challenge

Hey folks.. so we celebrated the 4th of July and you probably got some awesome awesome pictures. Now is the time to scoot over to the forum and get these great files to go with. Rosalie hosts these challenges every month with a new designer. Sharon of RSMobley Designs did these ones and here are a few of her projects she did with them. These are super cute! Don’t let the pictures sit in the camera. Print them and use them. If you are in to digital scrapbooking, the AI and SVG files are included so you can open them right up in Photoshop. These Sketch Challenges are approved by Becky Fleck of Pagemaps.

If you don’t have a book to put them in, My friend Lori has this cute idea in her craft room… Easy way to display those layouts before you put them in scrapbook. You can see it HERE.

Have lots of fun!!

Enjoy!

Why? So bizarre?

It is so bizarre that the giggles are so loud in our house when Wipeout is on. My son giggles so hard we have incidents of liquid up the nose as he tries to drink, giggle and watch someone make a face plant into some huge red ball. I sit down to watch and wonder if the folks who signed up are deranged. How crazy are you to sit in front of the tv and say yeah I can do that. Yep let's do that as a couple even.. Well wait maybe I should stop this line of thought because at times I listen to wheel of fortune and think. Oh yeah I could do that. .. Okay wow did I share that outloud?. Well I did. But still I don't get the wipeout thing, but I must tell you the giggles in my house are so contagious. Well I am off to finish watching. Hey I didn't say I didn't giggle to. I just think it's bizarre and one day when my son has this journal to look back on or even maybe his children. They should know the best thing to hear in our house are the loud loud giggles when a silly show is on even if it is totally bizarre. Haha. Love my life. Enjoy! Chris
