Welcome to the week... a video & pictures

Hello to everyone!! hope you had a wonderful weekend! I know I did and I have lots of pictures. So it is gonna be a picture week. My first are pictures and two videos of my son making apple pies. He loves to demonstrate things and it just made me giggle.

First.. let me say today is Cyber Monday... I still have the QMC in the store for 9.00 with a bonus. I am ready to take it down, but will let it sit for Cyber Monday. Jump on in there.

Here are some pictures of my hubby and son as they made homemade apple pies to contribute to the Thanksgiving meal. My son loves to make these pies and takes his peeling part very seriously with his apple peeler. He does all the apples. They were delish. Below I will post the video links for his apple pie making demonstrations. My hubby started making these with gluten free flour. I am not sure many in the family notice :-) But then I can have some and don't have to worry about not feeling to well after the meal.
I look at this picture and think.. wow he is growing quick!

And here are the video links..
This is demonstration Part 1. How to peel the apples.
And this is demonstration Part 2. Mixing the flour.
Hope his demonstrator voice makes you giggle. He has well earned this voice from watching hours of "All about John deere" movies and having us sit through cooking demonstrations at the fair. Also, he is prone to say "wait, wait" when there is a cooking show on tv. I buy a new ornament each year to commemorate the year. One of the ornaments I bought this year is a chef santa and I am working on my words to put on the little tag... Something about...
One time you "made a recipe" filled with ketchup and yogurt. You smiled & pronounced we should try it. We offered the first bite to you. Which you then pronounced... " maybe sugar would be better with yogurt". 2009 The year of chef hats and "new recipes".
I will post a picture of my new ornaments for this year during Christmas break.
That's it for today. I will work through my pictures this week and don't forget to hit the QMC for Jan-Mar 2010 before it jumps back to full price.
Enjoy!
Chris

My Anniversary... mush alert...

Mush Alert.. Stand back if you are not ready this early in the morning for some mushy gushy pronouncements....

Today is my Anniversary... I married my love in 2001 on today. It was a wonderful day! The sun shone brightly. Everything was right with the world. I know many who have been with me have read the story about how we met, our first "I love you". all of the above. But with every day my love grows. I am actually gonna keep this short as we have plans for dinner and I want to have time to get it together to enjoy them. So to the love of my life.. If you happen to read this... I love you! With all my heart. A little bit more with every second of every day!

Enjoy!
Chris

PS for those who haven't read the stories in the past... Here is my post from 2008...

And today is my Anniversary. I have been married to my fabulous husband for 7 years today. We did the unimaginable and stayed together the night before our wedding because we already lived together. And my favorite memory is my husband woke me up at 4 a.m. and said... JUST THINK IN 12 hours from now you will be Mrs. Durnan. you will be my wife. What a memory to cherish every year since when I woke up. My husband gave me a poem this morning that he wrote. It couldn't be a better gift. I love it. Things have been tough as of late, but he is always the person I can turn to. The one I can count on for a hug and a smile. Oh and he has dreamy eyes. hmmm. wonderful! And the man can dance and loves to dance with me. If I get a chance later I will post some of those wedding pictures. My husbands fear during the wedding... That I would ask him if he was drunk at the alter. Because we would have ended up in a fit of the giggles. The first time he said "I love you" to me, we were at a rodeo and heading for the dance, I looked at him and said "are you drunk?" and mentally I was kicking myself over and over. DUMB DUMB DUMB Chris! What stop saying that. Insert your foot into your mouth before you say one more word!! My internal dialogue was brutal. And he waited another 3 months to say it again. And it was the longest three months, but now it has been the best and the most wonderful 7 years.

a little behind... Halloween pics.

So I downloaded a bunch of pictures and came across these which I don't think I posted. I apologize if I did. This is my army kid for Halloween. He wasn't in top shape, but wanted to try. We made it to two house and went home. He still hasn't finished the candy. But he loves the costume! He loves to put on those army outfits, knights, clone troopers. He has a great imagination.

And this is my hubby's first 5k. Our friend Ed on the right won the race and the prize. Which he was happy with. My son and I played on the playground in the background and waited for them to run it. It was a very windy and cold day. but we are so proud of our "Daddy" .. my hubby...

Here he is crossing the finish line with my army kiddo waiting. Since it was on Halloween he wore the costume to the run the morning of Halloween. We'll get lots of use out of the costume I am sure.

A little behind on those pics, but at least they are here in my journal.
Have a wonderful day!!!
Enjoy!
Chris

Our Recipe swap in the forum came to a close this last month and these were my two send ins. Thank you to Sarah for hosting it over a long time span. I am certain those who receive them from me as gifts will be way thrilled. So thank you to all the participants for helping me to put together these beautiful gifts. When I get them together I will post pictures.
I have no idea where I got these two recipes. They just showed up when I was digging through my stuff. They looked like fun!

That list of wishes and desires...

Came out of the shower to see this on the floor. Tis my son's continuing attempts to remind me Santa should bring him a drum set for Christmas. Even if Mom doesn't think it will fit in his sleigh with all the other kids needing gifts.

Enjoy!

What a week... some Nascar pics

So last weekend we went to Nascar. It was a great time. We got to see my brother and his wife and kiddo also. Which made it even better. We were getting ready on Sunday to head to the race which we had seats and pit passes and our truck was acting weird. Not a good sign. So we took it back to my brothers and called him and he told us to take his truck and not miss the race. Long story short (yeah right this me typing here).... we went to the race, spent an extra night at my SIL house. (THANK YOU THANK YOU!) and my drove my brother's truck home to Tucson, while our truck was at the mechanics. Luckily for us my brother was out of town so the vehicle was there for us to use. (THANK YOU! Wew!) and My SIL has a long standing friendship with a very nice guy who happens to be a mechanic. So we were in good hands all the way around. We were happy to get home and the hubby went back up to Phoenix to pick up the truck later in the week. Ended up it was an easy fix and not alot of deep pockets were needed. (THANK YOU!!! Woohooo!). At Nascar we had tons of fun. So here are a few of the pictures.

This first picture is of the three of us. Luckily some lady walking by offered to take the picture or there probably wouldn't have been any of me there. This was at the end of the day and I had given up on having my hair down because it was hot. When I saw the folks walking around with their winter jackets on you could tell who was from Arizona and who was from parts unknown. As they were sweltering with their favorite drivers jacket on. And those jackets are reminiscent of the letterman jackets in high school made from leather and thick feltish material (feltish .. made up word I know). And then of course there were the other fashion statements which I probably shouldnt mention or I would be marked as an over 18 blog, but let me say in my people observing moments. I was like WOW> oh wow> OH MY> WHOA! hahaha. I sat in the stands for a while, but there was a lady a little over from me so heavily perfumed I couldn't breathe without wanting to hurl. I just didn't think those around us would appreciate this phenomenon. So I didn't actually see alot of the race, but the people watching was A+ material and seeing my hubby and son get all jazzed even better. We were far in on an aisle and I just felt like a crammed sardine.
This is "THE FLAG". I had premonitions of spending tons on trinkets and hats and tshirts. and it wasn't so! woohoo!! My hubby and I have long since decided we are good without the memorabilia written across our chest on a tshirt. However, we knew our son might want something. The only thing he wanted was a checkered flag. And let me tell you we have gotten our $7.00 worth. And also... I will never second guess my son again. With thoughts of money blown on things he will grow out of in a month or so He plainly said ALL he wanted was the checkered flag. So we are good. He spent lots of time running/racing around it.

Here are my two guys standing up to see with their headphones. They were listening to the drivers and so awesome to see them smile! Just awesome!

Although my hubby and I decided my son was probably just slightly young for this adventure. We still had a good time. We got to about 70 laps to the end and we were sitting on a picnic bench behind the stands and our son was waving his checkered flag while my hubby and I listened on the headphones. And my son came up to us with the peace sign (2 fingers in a V). This is sign language in our house for 2 minutes and we are done/going/bed etc. So we pull off our headsets and he says "2 minutes and we are going back to Aunt Becci and Uncle Dave's house" and he looks at my hubby shows him the 2 minute universal signal and says "2 minutes Dad". He was done. my hubby and I giggled. I said really? did we just get the two minute count down? US? the ones who created it? We did go so we could get back on the school buses shuttle out of the raceway area before the lines were so long.
Another first for my son... riding the school bus. He loved it and so now I have the form for riding the bus home in the afternoon from school on my counter. To delay it for a week or so because I think holidays are hectic I told him there was a 2 week waiting period and he probably wouldn't be able to ride it til after Thanksgiving. I just can't wait for the day when he says to me with his universal 2 finger peace sign... "2 weeks Mom.. there is a 2 week waiting period for.. blah blah blah" I know it's coming, but for now I get to see his happy smile right after he leaves class. Love it. Love my son. Love my Husband. Love my Life.
Enjoy!
Chris

Made it through another weekend...

WARNING WARNING... Prepare for rambling ahead......

Wow what a weekend and now I am feeling like I might make it. This morning I woke up with some energy in my fingers. This is awesome! Two weeks of exhaustion is just something else. And to have my little one sick to... even more stressful. He and I are both making amends and moving forward in our holiday crafts, school, files for the QMC. a little bit of everything. I, also, this weekend covered my eyes and peaked out between my fingers at the calendar. OH MY GOODNESS! There is not much time to get it all organized and together. Why is it when you were little it took forever to get to the holidays and now it seems like I can't slam my heels down to put on the brakes and slow down the fast skid into the holidays. I have decided this year. I want to be more involved. Make more gifts. Make more fudge. Sing a few more songs, Decorate a few cookies and enjoy it a bit more. To really feel the spirit of the holidays and the religion of the holidays and our family. I sometimes am so overwhelmed by everything that is the holidays and the "to-do's" and on that day I am worn out and just don't enjoy it as much as I'd like to. This year I already am excited. I am looking forward to all the things.

In that vein, I have been working on holiday projects that I have been pre-blogging about for the holiday week when I want to spend more time with family. So over the holidays you will see my little projects that I am working on. So if I chat alot and you didn't get to see any pictures you will know why... It's a secret. The holiday gift giving secrets. My son is not so great about keeping the secrets of gifts, but he loves to try. His eyes sparkle and he giggles and he covers his mouth and scrunches up his shoulders and giggles and runs away. If you ask him... do you know what Dad is doing? Or getting? he will get into a fit of giggles and say "I can't tell you Mom. It's a secret." So then I will put on the pressure and say... " are you sure you don't want to tell me? I'm your Mom. you shouldn't keep secrets from me? come on? I want to know?" He will take off running with his mouth covered and gigggggling. I think that is the best part about the "secrets" watching a 5 year old try to keep them. When he slips up, he will get this look of panic like.. "did you hear me?" which I will ignore and pretend like I never heard it. And he will quiz me a little til he is satisfied I don't know. It is way more fun to let him keep his gift secrets and be able to tease him then to have him feel like he let the cat out of the bag. And for the real pressure... throw him down on the ground and tickle him and the proverbial "cat will be out of the bag" as he giggles and giggles at his holiday delights

yes this year I am looking forward to the holiday delights.

Here is my question for you out there as I work on my projects!!

What is the best way to apply glitter? I am applying to painted wood. And it is a pretty large area. So your help on that one...

also... We need to fill our planner swap and it needs to be signed up for by the 15th of November. We have one full and need a few more. It is a 6x6 one page has the Month decor on it and the other 6x6 has a calendar on it. The ladies coordinating it have also offered to use their bind-it-alls to put them together. Sandra who started the swap says she uses the pages after the year to make a scrapbook out of. The title pages come in pretty handy. So if you are looking for a project to give away that is handmade and has the help of 13 other ladies. Please jump on in and sign up quickly!.

We have been making a real effort in the forum to get those holiday gifts organized and together. We have been running recipe swaps to finish the book by the holidays.

As well as we have a shopping corner in the forum. Where you can post the deals you find on the internet. The Joann's Coupons, the Michael's coupons The Hasbro game sale coupons and rebates. Don't forget to check it out.

Enjoy!

hmm.... HINEE

So some emailed and asked .. Do you have the H1N1? So i got to start to worry and went to the cdc and here is my checklist from their site with my checks. Okay so after I reviewed the list... i thought WOW. How many times have I had H1N1? hmmm... Seriously these symptoms are so similar to how I have felt every time I have gotten sick. And I could put a check next to the bottom item if I have eaten something with wheat in it at the time of being sick. So yeah. I don't know. We are probably just sick. We just happen to be sick together which makes it harder and my lovely wonderful hubby is stopping at the store to bring home foods. And right now I am kinda hungry. Craving something yummy to munch on... He is the best. Love him dearly. I have to say I prefer my SIL the nurses name for H1N1. She calls it the HINEE (pronounced High-Knee). I thought yeah.. why isn't it the HINEE at least it would help with a giggle. Can you imagine the newscasters saying HINEE every two seconds? hahaha. Well anyways as for me I am back to the couch. Enjoy!

New Traditions - Favorite Things

So last year we started a new tradition in our family. The favorite things. You know how sometimes there is something you find throughout the year You just think is the best. I love handmade soap. I have to be careful what I buy, but when I find the right stuff I love it. Anyways. I contributed that to our favorite things. Here is a picture of the ladies favorites things.
I have all of these things and use them and have all year. (sorry about the sideways pic) Our family friend Donnie have us the recipe to her yummy salad dressing and the fixings and squeezer and container to put it in. My Mom loves this yoga workout, a lottery ticket and white chocolate, My Aunt loves hearts so she gave us heart measuring spoons and she loves pictures so little picture frames for the fridge, my sister loves the tradition of knitting and crocheting and gave us the instructions and yarn to do our own, my cousin gave us a small candle from her favorite store where she goes to school, my Nan bought us each a candle.
And here we are all together. With our bright pink bags which each put our items in. It was so much fun to join in on. We missed the picture of the boys favorite things, but theirs was really cool to. This year I will have to remember to get that picture.
I love traditions and the nostalgia, but I also love new ideas to. I am the crazy lady who brings some new recipe every holiday. This favorite things was my new idea from last year. It was a lot of fun and everytime I use those items I think of my family members. Can't wait for this year.
Enjoy!

Optimism

Optimism does not mix well with watery eyes, runny noses and fever. I was very optimistic that we were on the road to mend. However, I seem to be the worse for wear right now. Darn it. So back to it I go and I will write more tomorrow.

Enjoy!

quick note

Trying to get my head back into it this morning. We spent the weekend pretty sick. My little one had a temperature of 102.3 and varying the rest of the time. He seems to be jinxed for Halloween weekends. So no school today. The 24 hour no symptom policy in effect. I am off to hang out with him. So until tomorrow... see you then...

Enjoy!
